Buddhism was first brought to China from India from Missionaries and traders along the silk road in the late Han Dynasty. Buddhism did not become popular in China until after the decline of the Han Dynasty, when the strict Confucian Beliefs were no longer enforced The National Art Museum in Beijing has on display a replica of a Buddhist statue from the Mogao Cave on the Silk Road.
Buddhism one of the most common religions in China. For thousands of years it has dominated the religious life in China and has had a tremendous impact on chinese art and literature.
